Fall Line Fest Releases Official Lineup For 2014 (Updated)

Ladies and gentlemen, the lineup for the second annual Fall Line Fest, taking place on September 5 and 6, 2014, has just been released!

Ladies and gentlemen, the lineup for the second annual Fall Line Fest, taking place on September 5 and 6, 2014, has just been released! Featuring everything from hot indie acts to rock legends and the best in local talent, this two-day festival appears to have it all, and we’re guessing this 10-band initial announcement is just the tip of the iceberg.

Real Estate are at the top of the bill, and this New Jersey indie act was adopted early by the RVA massive, after they played a couple of packed shows at Strange Matter early in their career. With their brand new album, Atlas, scoring a Best New Music designation from Pitchfork, these guys are surely taking things to the next level in 2014, and getting to see them on a big stage here in RVA is going to be a real treat!

And there’s plenty of other great indie rock where that came from. We just had The Hold Steady in town last weekend, but if you weren’t willing to brave the wilds of the Chili Cookoff to see them (we can’t exactly blame you), they’ll be playing Fall Line Fest as well. And of course, Avers, whose debut album just came out today (perfect timing!) will be on the bill, presenting their distinguished brand of indie-psych from right here in RVA! Plus, when was the last time you got to see Matthew E. White rocking a local stage? It’s been a minute, we must admit–but we can all look forward to him bringing the sounds of his wildly popular 2012 debut, Big Inner, to the adoring hometown crowd.

But possibly the biggest news of all is what delights await the hip hop heads among you. DJ Lonnie B and Skillz will be performing together. These artists were once part of the legendary Supafriendz, one of the most important (and sadly underrated) RVA hip hop groups of the 90s. If you missed Marcus Venable’s Richmond Magazine retrospective about this group from last year (I’m still mad we didn’t publish this article), then get familiar, so you can understand exactly why this set is the one Fall Line Fest appearance this year you cannot afford to miss.

There’s more, too! Recently reunited VA emo heroes Fairweather will be bringing the sounds of their brand new self-titled album to the stage at Fall Line Fest. And the recently rediscovered Michigan punk pioneers Death will be on hand as well. These subjects of the popular documentary A Band Called Death have reunited their surviving original members, and they’ll be coming to RVA to blow us all away.

All this plus Swedish indie-poppers The Mary Onettes, all-female punk ragers Potty Mouth, Raleigh-based female emcee Rapsody, and 40 more we haven’t heard about yet! This is gonna be great, folks. So get stoked for Fall Line Fest 2014! Advance weekend passes are currently available for only $30–click HERE to order!

Here’s the full line up released so far. Expect 20+ more bands to be announced closer to event day.
