From Fragile Seeds share acoustic preview of new album; Myth And Ceremony out April 14

It’s been less than two years since From Fragile Seeds released their debut album, There Are No Maps Left, but the RVA post-hardcore band has experienced a lot during that time. Now, with the impending release of second full-length Myth And Ceremony, they’re bringing the sum total of those experiences into the world–and today, RVA Magazine is happy to present a preview of the album with a live acoustic performance of the Myth And Ceremony track “Comfort.”

This performance, filmed by Steven and Lily Photography on what appears to be a back porch somewhere in RVA, features From Fragile Seeds’ current four-piece lineup. However, drummer Chris Gregory doubles as a third guitarist–which is fitting, in light of the fact that Myth And Ceremony was recorded during a transitional period in which the band had only three members. Gregory, an accomplished guitarist in his own right, doubled on drums and guitar for the album, and it’s pretty amazing to watch him play his guitar both in conventional fashion and as a percussion instrument during this video.

Myth And Ceremony will be released in CD and digital formats on Tuesday, April 14. Singer/guitarist Andrew Inge, who also produced and engineered the album, described the seven songs on this full-length as “a bit more focused in style” than the band’s previous album. “[On] the last album, we seemed to have trouble deciding what we wanted to be,” he explained. “We’ve gone more in the “post-rock” direction, I guess you could say. I just think it’s a more grown-up and refined version of our old music.” Gregory agreed, saying, “It’s a little less aggressive overall, so therefore, a little more laid-back. At the same time it has a relatively uptempo feel, in a way, so it’s not extremely melancholy or anything.”

The band has already released one song from Myth And Ceremony, “Island,” on Non-Denominational Emo’s recent compilation, Volume 6: Epilogue, which goes to benefit RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network). This 125-song (!) compilation is available for only $4 (!!) from Non-Denominational Emo’s Bandcamp page. It features contributions from The Hotelier, Gates, Twin Foxes, and many others, and in light of the good cause it’s benefiting, you almost can’t afford not to buy it. “Island” will be available on Myth And Ceremony when it comes out April 14, but the acoustic version of “Comfort” will not. However, you can get an mp3 of said acoustic tune for free by signing up for From Fragile Seeds’ mailing list right here: http://eepurl.com/6BiqP. This will keep you informed on when the band has new music out, and when they’re playing shows–for example, the record release show for Myth And Ceremony they’ll be playing on Saturday, April 18 at The Camel! From Fragile Seeds will be joined by Way Shape Or Form, Claim Culture, and Antiphons beginning at 8 PM for the low, low price of $5. However, bring some extra cash, because you’ll have an opportunity to pick up Myth And Ceremony in physical form, and you won’t want to miss out on that! For more info on the show, click here.
