For those unfamiliar with the man, the myth, the legend, mc chris [sic] is a self-described “rapper of all things nerdy.” When he’s not incinerating the mic with rhymes about Star Wars, Batman, and such, you’ll hear his signature voice on many Adult Swim shows, including Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021, to name but a few.

And this Thursday, November 20th, The Camel will be graced with the presence of mc chris, along with MC Lars and Spose.

He’s currently on tour promoting his latest release, mc chris foreverrr, the rapper/voice actor’s Ghostbusters-themed double album. The Dungeon Master of Ceremonies took some time to talk about some new and exciting developments in his career and his upcoming show at The Camel.

mc chris’ Nov. 20th show might be a little closer to Thanksgiving than Halloween, but that’s no reason to withhold the Halloween spirit. “There is a costume contest that we will be having every night, and fans will be dressing up,” mc chris says. “We’ll have a winner every night, and then we’ll pick a grand prize winner at the end of the entire tour when we look at all the winners from every night.”

The rapper hopes to see a lot of people getting into the spirit of his new album at the shows. “Because it’s Ghostbusters-themed, we’ll have a lot of folks dressed up as Ghostbusters,” mc chris said. “We will be trying to make it as spooky as possible.”

As it turns out, mc chris has been quite the man about town. “I just finished a tour with Warped Tour over the summer, and this [Ghost Hunters tour] is a longer tour for fans that either missed me this summer or want to see a longer set for a cheaper ticket,” mc chris said.

Speaking of Warped Tour, mc chris has a lot of positive feelings about his time on the well-known package tour. “Warped Tour was an amazing experience,” he said. “It was great to go to places I don’t normally get to tour, see fans that don’t normally get to see me and reconnect with amazing fans that were so positive. And it was such an uplifting experience to see them every day and see what they have to say. And performing was awesome. It was just a great experience.”

As if a Warped Tour set wasn’t exciting enough, fans will also be thrilled to know that there’s a lil’ mc on the way. During Warped, Mr. & Mrs. mc “were able to get pregnant, so now there’s a third person who’s about to join our little family, and that inspires me and motivates me even more,” mc chris said.

It’s onward and upward for mc chris, and he assures us that he already has “a couple things planned” for the future. Specifically, he said, “I’m definitely going to be experimenting, researching the comic book universe. I’ve got a Batman villains album that I’ll be working on, as well as a Marvel album. There are lots of different subjects that I haven’t touched upon yet that I look forward to talking about. I’m never at a loss for ideas–there’s just an infinite amount of things for me to rap about, which makes my career so much fun and kind of never-ending.”

Although “we haven’t been to Richmond in a long time,” mc chris said he was excited to be back. “I had gotten so many requests from fans that I wanted to come out and see how things were these days,” he said. “Hopefully we see a lot of folks out there, because we’d love to keep returning to Richmond.”

mc chris is also looking to dig into the local culture while he’s in town. “I’m excited to discover Richmond again,” he said. “Check out your comic book stores, and find the best food. I love … interacting with fans on social media and talking to them about what I should do today. That’s the best part of the tour.”

mc chris will playing at The Camel on Nov. 20th, along with MC Lars and Spose. Tickets can be purchased here.
