Turnstyle are celebrating their ten-year anniversary with a sweet drum n’ bass show at The Camel. Plus, Balliceaux will be hosting the twelfth RVA Noise Night. Friday, 6/28: Hypercolor @ Gallery 5
Poppy rockers Hypercolor take the stage this Friday at Gallery 5 to play some good old-fashioned rock n’ roll. They will be joined by local upbeat rock contemporaries Silversmiths and the folky indie rockers Glass Twin (formerly known as Marionette). Best of all, it’s free! (Although there is a suggested five dollar donation–bring something to share if you can). If the lighter side of rock is your thing, you’ll want to check this out.
Saturday, 6/29: King Of Pops Scavenger Hunt & After Party/Black Girls & The Big Payback @ Hardywood Brewery
It’s a full day of beer, music, and activities at Hardywood Brewery. Starting at midday with the Richmond.com King Of Pops Scavenger Hunt, a two-hour scavenger hunt through the Fan, the Museum District, and Carytown, the fun continues with a mid-afternoon after party back at Hardywood, featuring the Animal Beat. Then, later in the afternoon, Hardywood breaks their usual string of folky acoustic music to host two sets each by Richmond indie favorites Black Girls and the red hot James Brown tribute funk of The Big Payback. There will be plenty of awesome outdoor music, food, fun, and scavenging, so head out for some Hardywood favorites, some food from Magna Carta, and some great funk, soul, and indie rock.
Saturday, 6/29: 10 Years of Turnstyle: DNB Sessions @ The Camel
Turnstyle, a local record store specializing in EDM, house, and other forms of electronic music, is turning ten this weekend, and they are celebrating with an excellent drum n bass showcase at The Camel. The show will be headlined by the Grammy-nominated producer Stunna from Chicago, Method One from San Fransisco, and heavy DNB from The Insiders of Bristol, UK. The show will feature local support from Turnstyle’s own Joanna O and Norfolk, VA DJ Patrick Currier. Come dance to some real drum n bass in an intimate club environment with some good people. Leave the glowsticks and legwarmers at home–this is going to be old school!
Sunday, 6/30: RVA Noise Night #12 @ Balliceaux
This Sunday, Balliceaux hosts the twelfth instillation of RVA Noise Night. Admission is free, though there is a suggested five dollar donation, and these nights always feature a plethora of diverse noise music for your listening pleasure. This weekend, we’ve got Boston (via France & Korea) sax and percussion duo Jun Young Song and Fausto Sierakowski, along with Tinnitustimulus, Burak, and the string-tinged sounds of New Ting Ting Loft. Come out, have some drinks, and hear some sweet noise.
Sunday, 6/30: The Hussy @ Strange Matter
The late show at Strange Matter this Sunday looks like a fun way to wrap up the weekend with some psychedelic punk dancing. White Stripes-esque male/female duo The Hussy are headlining a show featuring support from local favorites The Ar-Kaics, Banshee Bat, and Christi. The Hussy play some psyched-out garage punk, and the rest of the bands rock in like-minded fashion. Cover is only six bucks–don’t miss out!
