RVA RADIO: DJ Jackie O, “GRIND”

by | May 21, 2010 | MUSIC

RVA RADIO brings you the best in regional deejays. Tonight we bring you Jackie O from DC.

“Whether it’s on the mic or behind the turntables, DJ Jackie O is ready to set the club scene on fire. With her punk stylings and hip-hop swagger, she’s rocked parties with Willy Joy (URB’s Next 100) in Chicago to Taxlo (voted best party in America – Blender Magazine) in Baltimore. From crunk hip-hop anthems to electro dancefloor stormers, DJ Jackie O is known to set crowds into frenzies. She’s already shared bills with heavy weights such as Dan Deacon, Scottie B, King Tut, Say Wut, Maluca and Dave Nada. In dc Jackie O holds it down with 2 monthly parties: the hit 90s hip hop night KIDS, and her musically eclectic creation $weat$hop, which she runs with Trevor Martin. She was recently nominated for a WAMA award (Best Electronic/Dance DJ) and called one of DC’s Top 4 Hottest DJs by Modern Luxury Magazine.”

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is. Off of Broad Street, deep in Scott’s Addition between warehouses and alleyways, is a black hole in the wall filled with music, vintage VHS, and (perhaps most importantly) Richmond’s preeminent collection of horror-themed pinball machines. I came to Wax Moon on a cool...

It’s Still Our City | Ep. 10 Lady E

“I met this phenom many, many moons ago at DLB, and I was instantly smitten. She’s always marched to the beat of her own fuckin’ drum—and still does. So much respect. And then I heard her sing... oh mylanta. Her voice absolutely floored me. She moved to Richmond at 18...
