Here’s a really rad last-minute opportunity for all y’all RVA music fans and boosters out there–we’ve gotten our hands on a pair of tickets to the Avers show with New Boss and The Trillions at Charlottesville’s The Southern on Thursday, July 10, and we’re going to give them away to one lucky reader! We’re not going to give you the full bio on Avers just now, partly because we’ve covered this buzzworthy sextet quite a bit in the six months since they made their public debut, and partly because we’ll have the full scoop on this local supergroup in our next print issue–which should be hitting the streets around the end of this month. But if you haven’t been a member of any of the adoring audiences who have been packing local clubs to hear them thus far in 2014, you can check out their take on tough yet hazy psychedelic alt-rock below with a playlist featuring several songs from their recently released debut LP, Empty Light:

And once you fall in love with those (which we know you will), start prepping for the one-hour drive northwest to catch them at Charlottesville’s own The Southern later this week. They’ll be bringing guitarist/keyboardist Charlie Glenn’s other well-beloved RVA band, The Trillions, along as support. Once they get there, they’ll be meeting up with New Boss, the latest incarnation of Thomas Dean’s long-running Charlottesville/Roanoke post-hardcore/alt-rock band, formerly known as Order (of the Dying Orchid). So basically, this is a guaranteed night of mind-bendingly great rock n’ roll tuneage–well worth the quarter-tank of gas you’ll burn to get there!

WHAT: Avers Invade The Southern In Charlottesville!
WHO: Avers, New Boss, The Trillions
WHERE: The Southern, 103 S. 1st St, Charlottesville VA

And maybe that’s the only cost you’ll have to pay! Just enter your info into the Punchtab box below for a chance to win a pair of tickets to see Avers at The Southern, and you could be cruising up there in style to take in a free show! Keep an eye out for extra chances to win, and make sure you’ve entered by Wednesday at 4 PM, because that’s when we’ll shut the contest down and pick a winner.
