They came for our fro-yo shops and I said nothing, but when they came for our donuts, there was no kitschy local options left.

That’s right, Richmond is about to turn into NYC or Washington DC in the worst way with more than a baker’s dozen franchised Dunkn’ Donut shops being planned out around the city over the next few years.

North Carolina-based husband and wife team Gregory and Danielle Nigro are planning the new donut ventures starting with one right near VCU at 900 W. Broad St..

“I think (Richmond is) a very dynamic city with a lot of people who are looking for our product,” Gregory, whose obviously never had a donut form Sugar Shack, County Style, Duck Donuts, Dixie Donuts, any of the other local bakeries, told Richmond Biz Sense in a pun-laced post. “You’ll be seeing quite a few stores opening in the next 12 months. I’d be surprised if we ended at just five locations.”

So there yea go, RVA, get ready for donut-saturation of the worst, corporate variety. And it turns out Nigro’s franchise contract actually requires “14 total stores” in the RVA area so we’re really about to get crammed with the ol’ DD in the next few years.

Gross.
