While it’s been nearly two years since a burlesque performance graced the stage at the Firehouse Theatre, it’s only been a little over two months since Blacklist Burlesque wowed this whole city with The Lovers, The Dreamers, and Me: a Burlesque Tribute to Jim Henson. However, with tickets for that original performance selling out several days in advance, it’s no surprise that an encore presentation has arrived to delight the legions of RVA burlesque fans!

This encore presentation comes to the Firehouse Theatre as the result of a collaboration between Blacklist Burlesque producer Moxie LaBouche and the Firehouse’s recently installed Producing Artistic Director, Joel Bassin. Bassin’s performing arts career has encompassed artistic, administrative, academic, and technical aspects of the field, while LaBouche has proven her skills around Richmond with several popular recent “nerd-lesque” productions, including tributes to The Princes Bride and Game Of Thrones. Blacklist Burlesque plans to stage encore presentations of both of these productions later this year, while burlesque will be a regular feature on the Firehouse’s schedule beginning this fall.

For Blacklist Burlesque to honor Jim Henson’s body of work is particularly appropriate in light of the common vaudeville origins of the burlesque medium and Henson’s famous Muppet Show. This encore performance will see dancers paying tribute to said show, as well as other Henson highlights including Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and The Dark Crystal. Dancers will include local burlesque luminaries such as Moxie LaBouche, Dante The Inferno, Sally Starrdust, and Venessa Chevelle, as well as regional performers including Mab Just Mab (Washington DC) and Lily Liqueur (Norfolk VA). Comedian Ray Bullock will also appear, and host Ego Von Hubris will perform complete with a licensed Muppet doppelganger.

This burlesque tribute to Jim Henson takes the Firehouse Theatre stage for two shows on the night of Saturday, April 4, at 8 PM (18+) and 10:30 PM (21+). Tickets are $12 in advance, and can be ordered by clicking here: http://firehousebb.bpt.me/ (be certain you’re buying for the correct time as tickets cannot be cancelled).

Of course, if you’re looking to see this show for free, your pals at RVA Mag just might be able to help you out with that! Richmond Got a Little Filthier. John Waters Was Here.

Monday night I got taken to a church of filth. The Pope of Trash, the Prince of Puke, the Sultan of Sleaze, John Waters, graced the Byrd Theatre for a sold-out one-man show. The actor, writer and director became famous for cult classics like Pink Flamingos, Hairspray...
