What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

Our cup is overflowing with news this week, but first head over here to check out what awesome brews were released in Richmond last weekend.

We’ve got a new brewery, a West Coast brewery headed for Roanoke, a festival, and tons of beer releases this weekend so hold on to your mugs because we’re about to tap this thing!

Petersburg brewery Trapezium Brewing Co. is slated to open in the historic icehouse brick building in Old Towne In mid-June. They will have eight beers on tap when they open, a taproom, a pizza restaurant, and a courtyard. You can check out our interview with the owners here.

Gov. McAuliffe recently announced that San-Diego-based Ballast Point Brewing and Spirits is expanding with a production brewery in Botetourt County in Roanoke.

A new brewery will open its doors in Scott’s Addition this weekend. Castleburg Brewery will open at 1626 Ownby Lane on Saturday at 11 am. Mean Bird Food Truck will be on hand at 3pm to serve up some delicious food and the brewery will have 3 beers on tap, the Castleburg Cream Ale, Bishop’s Brown Ale and The Black Knight IPA. In its Brewer an Artist series, Hardwood will release its Große Teufel this Friday. The brew is an Eastern German ale that strikes an exceptional balance between its smoked barley base and lactic acid tartness.

Lickinghole Creek is hosting the Richmond Breweries United Festival this Saturday along with a collaboration brew. Richmond Breweries United (RBU) is a partnership between Richmond Regional Tourism, Richmond Beer Writers and Richmond Area Breweries. The goal of RBU is to educate others about Richmond’s rich beer culture and to grow beer tourism to our beautiful city one delicious sip at a time. The Goochland farm brewery partnered with 15 breweries to make this beer which is celebration of the American IPA and made with copious amounts of Amarillo, Simcoe and Centennial hops. Each member of RBU is invited to bring a specialty pin of any of their beers for cask festival so go check that out! 12-8 pm.

Clever Girl IPA will be back on draft and in crowlers at Triple Crossing tonight.

Isley Brewing is back this Friday with a mouth-watering infusion, the Bourbon Bacon Brown Ale.

On Sunday, May 29th, Center of the Universe Brewing in Ashland is hosting a Homefront IPA Memorial Day Cookout. In addition to food, their will be live music, and the Homefront IPA. 100% of the sales of Homefront IPA go Soldier’s Angels, to benefit local troops in need.

Garden Grove Brewing in Carytown has added a to go “Bottleshop” featuring many of your favorite eclectic finds from around the globe. So whether you’ve just enjoyed a fresh local brew in the taproom or are scurrying home through Carytown- you can now grab a rare Belgian Lambic, German Rauchbier or sweet limited release on the go!

The brewery is also bringing back Hibiscus Harlequin – an Amber Saison, the Garden Grove Pale Ale; and St Rostov, a Belgian Abbey Ale w/Rostov’s coffee fermented in red wine barrels. A new release will be Cojones Del Sol – a spiced Belgian Wit and Wild Child – a barrel aged multi-grain ale showcasing sixteen different grains.

Garden Grove will host a beer dinner on June 20th so keep an eye out for more information on that!
