GWAR is asking fans and the broader community to step up in support of co-founder Chuck Varga, who is currently battling cancer.

Varga, known to fans as “The Sexecutioner,” was one of the original artists behind GWAR’s early identity. A sculptor and special effects designer, he helped build out the band’s now-iconic costumes, props, and characters through Slave Pit Studios, the Richmond collective where much of GWAR’s world first took shape.
He also performed with the band in its early years, wearing one of the first full-head creature suits he designed himself. That mix of visual art and performance became central to what GWAR would grow into, a fully built-out universe coming out of Richmond’s late-80s art scene.
After stepping away from touring in the 1990s, Varga continued working in film, theater, and production design.
The band has not shared additional details about his condition, but the campaign points to something bigger by tying support for Varga to the ongoing need for blood donations nationwide.
