Reinhold’s Favorite HALLOWEEN MIXES 2014

Reinhold’s Favorite HALLOWEEN MIXES 2014

So here we are–it’s Halloween time again in RVA, a busy time for us with exciting events around town all week. At this time each year, I always look for the music I will play at various Halloween events. After a lot of searching though many genres of music and mixes, I thought it would be good to share some of my favorite mixes for this time of year. These can be used to soundtrack a party or event, or searched though for some good tunes to add to your own Halloween Mix. Hope you find something you like. Happy Halloween!!

MichaelNighttime
Nighttime always delivers when he plays live. This set has been a favorite of mine for some time. It’s good for Halloween because it has some hard hitting songs with an end of the world, apocalypse, dance your ass off vibe. Nighttime is the Right Time, after all!

Bird Peterson
Bird Peterson has always been a favorite of mine, he is always very creative and ahead of the curve in music trends. Here is an amazing Halloween mix that is my personal favorite at this time. He uses some really cool Halloween movie themes and songs – remixed with sound clips to make this mix. It perfect for Halloween in every way.

Krafty Kutz
This guy needs no introduction; he is a legend of the breaks scene, and electronic music. Here are two nice Halloween mixes from him. They’re short, but they use a lot of classic tracks that are pure Halloween party music.

RL Grime
By now you should know RL Grime, as he has become one of the stars of the electronic trap scene. This is his Halloween mix from 2013 & 2014 – mostly trap of course, but well mixed and put together, as he is known for. This is the turn up to 11 Halloween mix for you.

Young Brother
Simon Posford (Shpongle, Hallucinogen) and Benji Vaughan (Prometheus) joined together a few years back to form Young Brother. This is a nice change-of-pace Halloween mix that has many different elements of sound – from psychedelic rock to soundtrack songs and eerie fillers. I really enjoyed this mix; it’s something easy to put on for Halloween.

FIGURE
Figure usually comes at us with some devastation of bass upside our heads, but this mix is a little different. Figure’s Horror Punk mix has lots of Halloween punk and rockabilly tracks, and it’s the perfect mix if you’re into that sound for Halloween. This is a great one to put on at your place as you get ready to go out for Halloween, or if you have guests.

DJ GON
Gon always brings a unique vibe and funk to his sets; I can always find some unique sounds and themed mixes (which I love). Here we have Gon’s Funky Boo-ga-Loo Robin Williams Tribute with a lot of funky-feeling fun tunes that you will remember and enjoy hearing again. Gon really jumps around in this mix through lots of different music and BPMs. In the end you have great mix to play at a party that keeps it moving and isn’t stuck on any certain genre.

Dubvirus
Make no mistake, I prop up this producer all the time. Sasha “Dubvirus” always brings a great soundscape to his productions that I really love. Here we have a mix from last year for Halloween that is called “Totally Unoriginal Halloween Mix”–meaning it does not have any of his tunes it. However, it has his style and feel, so enjoy this one for glitchy drippy bass Halloween-ness.

Mr. Jennings
Mr. Jennings Crunklestiltskin mix is one of those mixes that’s been on constant play for me since 2012. It might be two years old, but sounds pretty current if you ask me–plenty of bass, and fun songs. We have some familiar tracks remixed by Mr. Jennings, like the Brazilian Girls “Pussy.” Plus, he puts “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails into the mix, so that always a big win for me for Halloween!

ASTR
ASTR is a electronica band that has a very 80’s feel–synth wave-type music with a poppy backbeat. Here are two Halloween mixes that go through all kinds of 80’s feeling music. Makes me feel like I’m stuck in a Miami Vice Halloween episode with Don Johnson – and I’m cool with that!

PHIL DICE
The Dice man brings the funk! Phil has a way of including the funk in all his sets. Here is a sweet set that works well for Halloween, with plenty of house funk and disco feels for your party!

DJ Shadow
DJ Shadow has to be included in this, as one of the original tastemakers in the land. Here is a mix from Halloween 2009 – pretty much speaks for itself.

ADEN
ADEN (All Day Every Night)from Richmond Va brings some deep cuts for us this Halloween. This mix has plenty of bass music from the house and moombahton genres that are good to get the party going.

Ill Omen
Representing some Drum and Bass in this collection of Halloween mixes is Ill Omen. A staple of the D&B scene here in RVA, this is a mix from 2014 when it snowed us all in like The Shining. This mix is tight, as Ill always delivers with solid mixes that go all over the field of D&B.

REINHOLD
So this is my late-night set, “The Night Love.” Something different for Halloween on this list, that has lots of deep movements for your late night needs and vibes. Good for sexytime –put this on, grab some drinks, and see what happens.

Thanks for checking these out! If you’ve got any other mixes I should hear, send them my way: (john@rvamag.com), or Reinhold on Facebook
