Hoss Haley, a longtime artist based in Asheville, North Carolina, will bring his three-dimensional art to the Visual Art Center of Richmond on Friday.

Haley sculpts two and three dimensional works in steel, concrete, bronze and often builds the machines and tools used to produce his art.

The artist’s exhibit, “YIELD”, which will be on display in the True F. Luck Gallery from tomorrow through October 31 will feature “The White Series,” a body of sculptures Haley created from old washing machines.

It will also include “Drawing Machine,” an interactive sculpture he crafted “as an effort to create a mechanical device that had a built-in random element, so that when set in motion the ultimate results would be unpredictable. To this end, four linear actuators were employed to affect the path of the stylus. These actuators could be controlled by sensors or simply by random computer commands,” according to his website.

Check out a video below of his work and Haley explaining his craft.
