VCU advances to elite 8 in NCAA… logo competition

Looks like your votes do matter after all.

Looks like your votes do matter after all. SportzEdge.com’s match up of college sports logos is still running strong, and VCU has made it to the next round and is now matched up against the IPFW Mastodons, a team out of Fort Wayne, IN.

Again, this is a contest based entirely on how cool you think the logos look and has nothing to do with physical prowess or athletic success.

There’s something uniquely American about that.

Alright, now that I’ve stepped off my soap box, Here’s what SportzEdge had to say about the match up. (Jesus Christ that ‘z’ in the middle eats away at my soul)

#3 VCU Rams

3-seeds have fared very well in this tournament, as VCU, Texas-San Antonio and East Carolina all made it to the final eight. We didn’t expect seeding to matter much in this tourney, but it’s actually proven to be important, as six of the eight remaining schools are 3-seeds or higher. Only IPFW and NC State (which has been a big vote-getter since the ACC Tournament), have advanced as lower seeds.

VCU fans have been great all tourney long, and just muscled past a game McNeese State squad that was upset by our contention that their logo stunk. It really wasn’t great–but our words obviously proved to be bulletin board material for the Cowboys, so it all worked out in the end. Can VCU swat away one final underdog on its way to the Final Four? Let’s find out together.

#13 IPFW Mastodons

Every NCAA Tournament has its Cinderella squad, and in this, the greatest non-sanctioned NCAA Tournament ever run by a Connecticut television station, IPFW is the Cinderella. The 13th-seeded Mastodons have made an incredible run to the Elite Eight, toppling goliaths in Big Ten champion Penn State and SEC champ LSU and then stomping out 9th-seed Eastern Kentucky in the Sweet 16. But this will be IPFW’s biggest challenge yet.

Head on over to SportzEdge.com and vote.
