Hey RVA and all you craft beer lovers out there! It’s time for your next installment of “Tapped,” RVA Mag’s weekly beer column. This whole month is going to be extra special because August is…VIRGINIA CRAFT BEER MONTH!

This week we’ve brewed up quite a strong roundup for you, but first check out a few photos from what you missed last week: (Check out last week’s full roundup here.

Triple Crossing’s Nectar and Knife IPA Release:

So as I mentioned up top and if you’ve been living under a rock then let me inform you that last weekend kicked off Virginia Craft Beer Month. If you missed our post announcing it check that out here.

Since there is so much going on we couldn’t fit it all into one post so RVA Mag decided to dedicate each week of “Tapped” to Virginia Craft Beer Month.

Each week, your cup will overflow with craft beer events, festivals, tap takeovers, beer releases, or whatever happens to be going on. And not just in Richmond either, all around the state! I’ll do my best to collect it all, but let me know if there’s something you’d like to see in here.

With that, let’s tap this thing.

Many bars are doing all VA beers on tap for the whole month of August. Brown Distributing has a pretty good list of them which you can check out here.

This Thursday, The Answer Brewpub will celebrate National IPA Day with an IPA Challenge. It will pit its beer up against local, national and other IPAs from around the world. Check out the flight options here.

The Answer will also host the official launch party for the Local Beer Review website. The brewpub will be tapping all local breweries involved in the site. And our very own president John Reinhold will throw down with his best DJ skills!

Jack Brown’s will also be celebrating National IPA day. They will have all VA beers on tap.
On Saturday, Ardent’s and Lickinghole Creek’s brews will take over 23rd and Main for their 2nd anniversary party.

Savory Grain is hosting a five-course beer dinner on Monday featuring Ardent, Hardywood, Lickinghole Creek, Triple Crossing and Strangeways Brewing. $50.

Strangeways is hosting another one of their fabulous Brews & Burlesque events this Friday. See Moxie LaBouche, Dante the Inferno, and special guests in all their silly, sexy glory! $9 in advance or $12 at the door.

The next few days is part of Stone Week RVA, where Stone beers will take over a bunch of restaurants and bars around town. Tonight, head to the Capital Ale House downtown to get some!

Stone’s beers will also be at Grainstaff & Stein Booksellers, The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing, Station 2 and Conch Republic tonight.

On Thursday, you can taste their beers at Sullivans, Lady Nawlins, Portrait House, Commercial Taphouse and The Cask Cafe.

Legend Brewing has just started up brewing their seasonal beers again! The traditional Märzen Lagar, the first installment in the craft beer month releases is already out for your enjoyment.

Legend also has their Oktobefest available now for mug club members. It was released earlier this week and the rest of us will just have to wait until this month to try it out I guess.

On Saturday, Triple Crossing will release the first in their Lockout series of beers, a Bourbon Barrel aged Liberty or Death Porter. It was a collaboration with Black Hand.

Elsewhere, Starr Hill Brewery is doing big things to celebrate Virginia Craft Beer Month. This Thursday, in celebration of National IPA Day, Starr Hill will feature a special IPA tasting of enhanced Northern Lights, King of Hop, Whiter Shade of Pale, Reviver and Double Platinum. Fri. Aug 7, will kickoff the brewery’s Cheers for Charity, a month-long partnership with the American Heart Association. For every pint sold, $1 is donated to AHA.

And they’ve also collaborated with Hardywood on a new wheat beer that will be coming out soon so stick around for that!

“Tapped” runs every Wednesday and will be filled with news about your local craft breweries, event, festivals, new beer releases and everything we think you need to know about the craft beer scene before you head into your weekend!
