DAILY FIX : Sweet Soul YouTube Mix

by | Dec 27, 2011 | MUSIC

I keep feeling the urge to listen to some ol’ soul music. I’ve been diggin’ on Dreams In Audio lately. They host soulful world and funk mixtapes from deejays worldwide, and on rainy days like today, they make good listening. You can check out their full catalog HERE.

I’m trying something new for this post. I’ve been on a sweet soul kick as of late, and the sad reality with many of these records is that they’re just too damn expensive to ever realistically obtain. I’ve realized that YouTube is an indispensable resource for music lovers like myself, as there are many users who happily share some of their rarest records with people who would never have the opportunity to hear or see a copy in person. The internet, as much as it de-fetishes the physical object, seems like the next best thing.

So I’ve put together a YouTube playlist of some sweet sweet soul 45s that I’ve really been digging lately, and that I will hopefully cross paths with somewhere down the road. If you press play on the video above it will play the entire mix in sequence, or you can go directly to the playlist link and pick and choose as you please.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
