When it comes to their sound, it’s difficult to place the boys that make up local band She’s A Legend into one little box and shut it.

When it comes to their sound, it’s difficult to place the boys that make up local band She’s A Legend into one little box and shut it.

Coming off as a pop/punk band, the four-piece definitely has some rock influences with a little emo thrown in.

Luckily, for the music lovers of RVA, we don’t have to sit here endlessly debating their sound we can just sit back and enjoy some new tunes from the group, who will release their second EP, Room 343 next weekend at Strange Matter.

She’s a Legend will be re-entering the Richmond scene with a more focused and mature sound. For those that ventured out into the sweltering heat during the Carytown Watermelon Festival, you may have had a chance to hear the new three-song EP.

Camden Cantwell (guitar), Sean Flynn (guitar), Alex McDilda (vocals), and Ben Safchuk (drums), who make up She’s A Legend, have been playing together for a year now, but the band officially started back in late 2011.

Flynn and McDilda decided to take their musical careers to the next level after college and started playing gigs with an ever-revolving lineup until asking Cantwell to come aboard in 2014.

Safchuk, rounded out the band on drums after seeing an ad on Craigslist.

“I was looking for a band, they were looking for a drummer,” said Safchuk. “We have the same influences, it kind of worked out perfectly.”

Their sophomore EP, Room 343 has a lot of new elements the band is anxious to share with listeners. They are happy to share the growth they have made as a band since their debut EP, Flight Patterns and Fist Fights in 2014, which was very much emo-pop driven.

“We experiment with a lot of different genres and different ways of expressing the sound,” said McDilda.

The band is able to take each member’s unique personality and style and incorporate that into their music.

As advised by the band, the best way to fully understand what makes them unique in the Richmond pop-punk scene is to see a live show.

“We’re probably one of the most energetic bands you’ll see onstage in Richmond,” McDilda said.

Cantwell echoed McDilda’s thoughts on the band’s energy and live performance.

“I think what sets us apart from other bands is that we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” he said. “We could jump on a show last minute and then all of a sudden we get there and were just there to party and I think people can see that and we’ll get people up to sing and dance with us.”

The three-song EP takes the listener on a journey through the highs and lows of life in a way that anyone can relate to and its upbeat so you can enjoy it no matter what you are going through.

This makes their new EP a great listen for fans of bands like Brand New, The Wonder Years, and Dashboard Confessional.

Room 343 was recorded at the Monster House studio with Mike Bridgett, who has recorded and worked with Turnover, Have Mercy, Handguns, and Broadside.

She’s a Legend will release their new album next Friday, Sept. 16 at Strange Matter. The band will perform with Cute is What We Aim For. Tickets are $15 and you can get yours here. Show starts at 8 pm.
