If reggae were a dude, he would be the guy always on his own time and a little late to the party. As the party is poppin, he is rolling in on a cloud, bringing his own vibe, bringing his own crew and his own cute chicks. He isn’t worried or concerned by what everyone else is doing, Reggae is his own thing.
By personifying reggae, I am trying to make a connection with what is going on. As electronic/club/rave music has caught fire and everyone in the city with an iPOD is getting booked, in thru the backdoor is a reggae dubstep movement that has been growing. The signs are there for people paying attention. You might have caught the basement rattling set by Long at Cellar Door a few weeks back.You might have caught on with Dave Nada and DSTRYD slowing things down with Moombahton. You might have heard a dubstep remix of Trenchtown Rock by now.
There are people wanting music to go with their hazy mental that isn’t pure techno. We should give it to them and watch them go. Consider yourself in the know, a new reggae dubstep movement is in full swing in RVA and we are down.
