Things are moving fast with new RVA nightclub The Broadberry. Things are moving fast with new RVA nightclub The Broadberry. It’s only been two weeks since we got the word that The Camel’s Rand Burgess and Lucas Fritz were teaming up with Joe’s Inn’s Matt McDonald to open a brand new music venue in the Broad Street space most recently occupied by Nu Nightclub. This was followed by last week’s announcement that Soulpower will be moving their monthly funk/soul dance parties to the Broadberry next month, and the news that DJ Williams Projekt will be occupying a Tuesday night residency at the venue throughout the month of May.

And now comes the moment that all of Richmond is surely waiting for–The Broadberry’s Grand Opening! It begins with not one but two local music showcases featuring some of the most “RVA” bands in existence, and the first of these two will take place tomorrow night! Headlining the evening will be the group who’ve done arguably more than anyone else in recent years to place RVA on the nation’s musical map–No BS! Brass Band. This RVA All Day crew of nearly a dozen horn players and one incredibly funky drummer will christen the Broadberry with their unique brand of jazz/funk/soul/punk amazingness. They’ll be joined by two of the city’s most beloved indie bands; Black Girls, who will be presenting highlights from their acclaimed new full-length slab, Claire SinClaire; and Goldrush, who’ll bring their usual mix of classical virtuosity and pop talent to the Broadberry stage. It all starts at 8 PM on Thursday, April 17, and admission is only $10, so get ready to experience the majesty of Richmond’s newest rock club! For more info on this show, click here.

But don’t tire yourself out on Thursday night, because the Broadberry’s got more in store for you just 48 hours later! Saturday night will bring you an evening of the best RVA has to offer in improvisational jazz/electronic/rock sounds… OK, the best in RVA jam bands. If you like wild light shows, crazy solos, and extended grooves that inspire lots of dancing (some of which will surely involve waving your arms in the air), this is the show for you. The Silo Effect, Former Champions, and The Polychrons will be bringing the funk on Saturday night, and we expect to see all of you there shaking your asses! The evening kicks off at 8 PM on Saturday, April 19, and once again, admission is $10. For more info on this show, click here.

Make no mistake, this is just the beginning for the Broadberry, which should soon take its place as one of the top destinations for live music in Richmond.
