Tapped: Canon & Draw Grand Opening, Garden Grove’s Straight Outta RVA IPA, & SABD Collaboration Crawl

What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire.

If you missed last week’s beer news, you can check those out here. Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

Steam Bell Beer Works’ long-anticipated Fan brewery, Canon & Draw Brewing Company will have its grand opening party this Saturday. Ad Nauseam DIPA, and Three Kings, a 7.2% DIPA intensely hopped with Citra, Mosaic, and El Dorado are just a few of the beers that will be on tap. 1527 W. Main St. 12-11 PM.

On Friday, Twisted Ales Brewing will release Parlor Tricks, a wild fermented Belgian IPA. The brewery pulled raspberry and peach flavors for this 7% brew. Rams for Memory will be in the house raising money to fight Alzheimer’s disease with a karaoke night.

Center of the Universe will release its highly-anticipated Chameleon IPA this Friday. Chameleon IPA is the Ashland brewery’s solution for the ever-changing palate in craft beer consumers. Every time Chameleon IPA changes, the background color on the can will change. Chameleon was constructed using Maris Otter, 2-Row, Flaked Oats, and Acidulated Malt. Mosaic & Simcoe hops were added to the boil and the beer was dry-hopped with Amarillo & Mosaic. Flavors like kiwi-strawberry and mango are bursting from this tropical brew.

And on Saturday, COTU will host its 4th Annual St. Paddy’s Day party for St. Baldrick’s.  foundation which has been providing lifesaving children’s cancer research since the year 2000. This free celebration is open to the public and is from 1pm-10pm. Live music, raffle, food trucks, Limited Irish Beer Release- 100% of this beer’s sales from the event will go to the St. Baldrick’s charity and more!

This Thursday, Legend Brewing will release Woman in Black Eisbock. This is their first installment in the Urban Legend series for 2018. Eisbock’s begin as a dopplebock, but then freeze out the water in the fermentation tank to create a high abv (10%) sipping lager. It’s smooth with dried fruit notes.

On Sunday, Garden Grove will have a limited edition beer release party in collaboration with RVA Art Collective & Richmond Brewery Tours. To commemorate this collaboration, Garden Grove will drop Straight Outta RVA IPA with $1 of every beer sold during the event going towards getting art supplies for RVA Art Collective. Local Artists will be on hand displaying and selling personalized Art/Crafts and 10 percent of all Art Sold will go toward the collective for supplies for city murals. Live music from Opus Maps and more to be announced!
GG will also have a 50/50 mystery prize raffle drawing.

At their Fulton location, Triple Crossing Beer will have Galaxy So Moasic DIPA, Out of the Blue, a porter with coconut and Blanchard’s coffee, and All Neon Like IPA will be available in cans.

The 1st Annual SABD Collaboration Crawl kicks off Sat.,  March 10th starting at 12 pm. Each partner will be working together to make a Beer recipe and then work together to create a Cider, Mead or Spirit. Here are the collaborating partners: Three Notch’d RVA & Courthouse Creek Cider, Blue Bee Cider & Ardent Craft Ales, Isley Brewing Company & Buskey Cider, Reservoir Distillery & Vasen Brewing Company, and The Veil Brewing Co. & Black Heath Meadery. Buskey Cider has partnered with Isley to make a Stout Cider, made with gluten-free ingredients from dark beers, namely coffee beans, cocoa nibs and husks, and Belgian candy!

Isley Brewing & Buskey Cider have collaborated to make Apples Anonymous, a golden ale fermented with raw apple juice that they will release on Saturday.

Three Notch’d RVA Collab House returns this Thursday for their weekly collaboration, this time, its Table Envy, a table beer made in partnership with Surface Architectural Supply, located in Scott’s Addition. Pint specials run till 7 PM. Stick around for trivia which starts at 7 pm.

Final Gravity Brewing Co. will release Ancient Mariner, a Blackberry Gose this Friday. The 4% brew is refreshingly fruity – slightly tart and slightly salty. The perfect combo.

On Monday, Buskey Cider will host a pairings dinner at the Savory Grain. Four courses of Savory Grain’s cuisine paired with four of Buskey’s ciders.  $60 per person– Call the restaurant and reserve your spot. 804-592-4000. See link for menu details.

Tonight, Vasen Brewing will release a Blackberry Gose. You will just have to go and taste it because that’s about all the info I have on it. 🙂

On Wednesday, Kindred Spirit Brewing will release Lucid in cans.  This marks their first can release of this hazy IPA which has huge pineapple and citrus flavors,

On Thursday, Ardent Craft Ales will release its Spring American Sour Blend. This wheat ale is pleasantly tart and was barrel-fermented with a house culture, then aged in a mix of chardonnay, port, and bourbon barrels for 12 months. This blend highlights raspberry and apricot aromas with notes of oak and vanilla. Spring American Sour Blend will be available on draft and in 330 mL bottles.

This week at Fine Creek Brewing Co., they will release Single Malt Scotch Ale, a warming beer made with all Thomas Fawcett’s Halcyon malt, a heritage variety of barley. They will also have Five O’Clock Shadow, their Dark Mild Ale. Lots of toasty malt flavors are packed into this low abv session beer, perfect for the last cold days of winter.

On Saturday, Blue Bee Cider will release its Mill Race Bramble, which is infused with raspberries and blackberries from Agriberry CSA and Farm.

Strangeways Brewing will release Unknown Brother IPA this Saturday, a double dry-hopped brew with pear and lemon rind notes.
