Those Freaking Weirdos are at it again! The monthly Brews & Burlesque event that brings together comically scandalous performances from this local neo-burlesque troupe and great craft beer from Strangeways Brewing has been bumped up a week, and will be happening this month only on First Friday, June 6! The art walk is awesome, but by the time Brews & Burlesque gets going, the galleries should be winding down–and besides, what could be more artful than scantily-clad dancers pulling comedic, acrobatic stunts while you drink craft beer? Nothing! Therefore, it’s in your best interests to wrap up your First Friday this month in the company of Those Freaking Weirdos and Strangeways Brewing for the June 2014 edition of Brews & Burlesque!

The usual cast of characters–Moxie LaBouche, Melody Magpie, Dante The Inferno, and your hostess with the mostest, Dev L. Ish–will all be in attendance, but that’s not all you can look forward to. Local impresario and king of RVA burlesque Buster Britches will also be on hand, displaying all the haunting and delightful moves that have earned him the title of Creepshow Casanova! Those who’ve caught his recent presentations of the Rehab Movie Brunch at Fallout know what’s up, and those who haven’t should definitely come down to Strangeways this month and see what Buster’s got to offer! The event will also feature stage kitten Bubble Lee, and as always, pre-show and intermission music, as well as sound and lighting, will be provided by DJ Jesse James Felice. So it should be a good time!

Review | ‘Come From Away’ is the Best We’ve Ever Been

Do you remember the rollerblading guy with the American flag kit on September 12th? We will never forget the 11th for the horrors, but do you remember the 12th? The 13th? If you do, I don’t even have to say which year. If you don’t, let me tell you a little bit about...

Before Richmond Was an Arts City, There Was Best Products

Imagine pulling into a suburban shopping center to buy a toaster and finding a department store that appeared to be falling apart with corners breaking away, walls peeling open like a giant cardboard box, or facades seemingly collapsing under their own weight. For...

Review | ‘I Love You Because’ Is Pure Joy 🏳️‍🌈

It could be said that Shakespeare invented the rom-com. It could also be said that Jane Austen improved it a couple of centuries later. Between the two of them, meet-cutes, notices of love or rejection arriving at exactly the wrong time, and breathless affirmations of...

Local, Latino and A New Richmond Cosmos

Tucked into the alley behind 2512 West Main Street, a fever dream of the cosmos has taken shape across a brick wall. The mural is the collaborative work of four Latino artists working in and around Richmond: Visibly Hidden, Monolith, Mars, and Sol. A distant Earth...
